Rooftop Rewards: How Can Solar Panels Save You Money?

All Posts

Updated: May 23, 2023

As the energy crisis develops, we’re all worried about rising costs and making ends meet. One innovative solution is to invest in solar panels for your property, where this renewable energy source can save you money and whilst also helping the environment.

It may not be clear at first how a solar panel system can directly help you to cut costs. For some there may be initial installation costs, but these will be steadily reimbursed through money saved by producing your own solar energy. Alternatively you can seek out a government-backed grant for a solar panel installation, which is a great way to counter upfront costs.

Read on for a look at how solar panels can work to save you money, where solar energy funding is just one part of the government-backed ECO4 scheme.

Solar panel installation

How Solar Panels Work

A solar panel consists of specially designed photovoltaic cells, which are fitted between layers of semiconducting materials. These cells convert the sun’s renewable energy into electricity. Solar panels can be installed on any roof or outbuilding that receives direct sunlight, where solar panel farms may also feature ground installation of large numbers of panels.

How Solar Panels Can Save You Money

When you install solar panels on your property, you can then use the energy generated to directly run your home, meaning you will need to pay for less energy from your supplier.

Any leftover energy that you don’t use can be fed back into the National Grid, for which you will be rewarded with further payments or discounts on your bills. Solar panels can also help to improve the value of your property if you are looking to sell in future.

Environmental Benefits

If your home is running on renewable energy from solar panels, then you will be using less finite resources from your energy supplier which are produced using fossil fuels. This will lower your carbon footprint, and conserve resources for future use. This allows you to help the environment whilst also saving money on your bills.
